Term 1

Ms Publisher

About Me Brochure: Create a double-sided brochure (6 sections) all about yourself using a premade template in MS Publisher. The front section of the brochure must have your picture and name on it. Your sections can include anything from family information, favorite school subjects, opinions, your interests, etc. This assignment must be printed and folded before you hand it in. Completion mark

Photoshop

Web banner: Complete the in-class lesson reviewing basic tools and demonstrating the creation of a web page header. Create your own banner on a subject of your own choosing using selection tools, layers, transparency and the transform tool. Completion mark

Merging Colour & Greyscale Images: See detailed instructions and marking criteria here. Completion mark

Tutorials: During the time given in class work on Photoshop tutorials. Students will chose different tutorials based on their current level of expertise. The Common drive has three basic tutorials to use as a starting point. After that students may select tutorials from the Internet. Completion mark based on time spent effectively in class.

Ms Word

Students will work on a series of MS Word Assignments in class designed to teach specific skills.  After the assignments are completed, there will be an in-class test to demonstrated the skills learned. Any students with an excused abscence for the test must make it up on the following tutorial Wednesday.

Gmax

Mace Tutorial :  Open Gmax. Go to the Help menu and select Tutorial. From the Getting Started section, complete Starting Out and Selecting Objects and Creating Animations

Create a character: After a demonstration tutorial, students will create a cartoon animal head. Some tutorials that might help: Adding textures, Rounding Edges, Cutting out Sections
Marking Criteria:

Rube-Goldberg Model & Animation: Use Rube-Goldberg examples from YouTube to get ideas to create a Rube-Goldberg machine. Machine must involve a minimum of 5 transitions (for example, ball down ramp starts dominos, dominos knock over cart on wheels, etc.). Dominos not a requirement - use your creativity.

Term 2
 

Ms Powerpoint

PowerPoint Presentation: Students will create a 2-3 minute presentation in PowerPoint on the focused topic of their choice. Students will then present their topic to the class. The focus of the unit is combining PowerPoint effectively with good public speaking.  Marking criteria


Gamemaker

You can download Gamemaker 7 from www.yoyogames.com
 
 The following games will be created in class using teacher-led lessons and/or tutorials found in the Common drive. These are completion assignments with marks given for various steps in completing the games.
 
 Clown Game:  Marking criteria: completion. If students miss the class there is a tutorial in Common
 
 Breakout Game:  The basics of the game will be covered in class. The tutorial reviews the basics and explains how to add extra features. 
 Marking Criteria: Completion of class work 5/10. Add lives 2/10, special brick 2/10, go to next level 1/10.
 
 Plane game: Again the basic game will be created together in class. The assignment Extend the Tutorial (in common) gives general directions on adding new features and suggestions on how to modify the existing code.
 Marking criteria: Basics 5/10 Two tasks from assignment 2.5/10 each
 
 Custom Game Creation: Using the skills learned from previous tutorials, students will create their own game based on one of the tutorial styles. The emphasis on the game is the gameplay and programming. Marking criteria
 


Video Creation

Practice Transitions: Take the 7 images in the common folder (IT11/Video) and create a short video (4 seconds for each image) using the applicable panning and/or zooming features. THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE YOU START YOUR VIDEO

Term 3

Ms Excel

Excel Assignments: Complete Excel Assignments #1-5 from the Common Drive.
Skills used: Formatting, Arithmetic Operation, SUM, MAX, MIN, AVERAGE, IF statements

Excel Test: Students will complete an in-class exercise demonstrating the skills from the assignments. Students who have an excused absense

Web site design / HTML

Custom Web Design: Students will design a website with a minimum of 3 unique pages on the topic of their choice.  Students must publish their own content and not simply copy and paste from other sites. Images from other sites maybe used.



Independent Project

For their final project of term three, students have the opportunity to select an aspect of the course they want to explore in more detail or to choose a topic from outside the course in order to create a final project. Work must be done in class. The project will be presented to the class with a demonstration of a new skill learned during the project.

As part of the project students must complete an action plan before starting and a progress report midway through.
