Course Description

Using the tools of terrible designers students will explore the full range digital media to capture, edit, and create 2-D and 3-D interactive web-based applications. Included are the use of sophisticated graphics, video and sound editing, 3-D modeling and animation, and media authoring tools.

 

Term 1 Assignments

Corel Draw Assignments

  • Do the nine beginner tutorials to get more familiar with Corel Draw
  • Use the freehand and shape tool, create a copy of the Napster logo.
  • Create one Logo for a new company that you are the President and CEO of.
  • Create a Company Flyer (using Corel Draw and Photoshop) advertising some of the special deals on merchandise at your company's store.

PhotoShop Assignments

  • Take your company logo from Corel Draw and incorporate it into a new photo scene with a picture of you interacting with the logo.
  • Create a Magazine cover with you on the front (link)
  • Do Project 7 - Engraving Collage Assignment found on the server. All needed images are in the PhotoshopCollage directory.
  • Take what you've learnt from the collage assignment and make a collage with you and pictures of things/people/places that interest you. You must use at least 5 photos and several works/phrases.

FrontPage Assignments

  • Follow the attached instructions to learn how to make a splash / welcome page for a website (PDF)
  • Use these instructions to learn how to create the main page of your website (PDF)
  • Follow these steps to finish hyperlinking and uploading your website to the Internet (PDF)



Term 2 Assignments

3D Studio Max Assignments

  • Create a table to become more familiar with 3D Studio (start with just the modeling) (link)
  • Now use your skills in modeling to create the the rest of a kitchen: chairs, cabinets, appliances, countertops, etc.
  • Complete the rest of the first tutorial to understand texturing and lighting.
  • Use these new skills to texture and light your kitchen scene.
  • Create a simple "M&Ms" style character, with hands, feet and a big head
  • Using Character Studio, insert a set of bones into your character to make him move.
  • Build a scene around your character. Come up with a short story (10-15 sec) that ends up with a tragic death for your character.
  • Add lights and cameras to your scene.

Term 3 Assignments

3D Studio Max Assignments

  • Animate your movie. Using a complete "start" file, the build each short piece of action from this file.
  • Render each completed scene with these settings (link)
  • Assemble these clips in a video editing software suite.
